If you've run out of products and can't make it to the salon, here are some great ideas to keep your hair healthy in a pinch. Protein is great for your body, in more ways than just through ingestion. Your hair also relies on protein to stay strong and healthy. This is why stylists will push you to have protein packs put in your hair. They help replenish the keratin and amino acids your hair loses in day to day life. We get it though, it can be expensive to come in and have a protein pack done once a month! That’s why we recommend you look to your own fridge for some healthy ways to help replenish the vitamins your hair needs to stay healthy when you don’t have time to come into the salon and have a professional one done. So, here are some fun recommendations for do it yourself mixes so you can do it at home!

  1. Egg Yolk & Honey

This protein pack is great for hair that is dry and needs some extra protein. Avoid this mix if you have naturally oily hair, the almond oil and honey will lock in moisture, which is great for anybody who feels a little dry after this winter! Mix the ingredients in a small bowl, and apply to your hair. Wash out with cold water after 15 to 20 minutes. Be careful as honey can actually lighten your hair if left in too long!

What you need:

1 egg yolk

1 tbsp honey

1 tbsp almond oil

  1. Avocado-Coconut milk

Another wonderful choice for anybody with dry, brittle hair, this protein pack should be avoided for those of us with oily hair. The avocado in this is wonderful for your hair, but can also weigh it down if used too often! Mash the avocado thoroughly, until all the lumps are gone. Add in your coconut milk and olive oil, then mix completely. Apply to your hair and was out after 30 minutes. Shampoo and condition as normal following.

What you need:
1 ripe avocado
2 tbsp coconut milk
1 tbsp olive oil

  1. Coconut milk

This is one of the easiest and purest ways to restore protein to your hair! All you need is coconut milk. Heat your coconut milk over a low flame, careful not to get it too warm, and massage it into your scalp. Wrap your hair in a towel overnight and wash the following morning. This treatment is wonderful for promoting healthy hair growth and keeping the dandruff on the DL.

What you need:
3 tbsp coconut milk

Uncooperative hair? Say hello to this taming protein rich paste that will work miracles on your hair. Combine mayonnaise and egg until they make a thick paste, and apply to your hair. Leave in for thirty minutes and then wash out. If you have combination hair, apply this mid-length to tip.
